Ben Horwitz, a former graduate manager for Syracuse basketball, is continuing his coaching career at another New York state team.

Hobart College, a Division III school in Geneva, N.Y., that is about an hour’s drive from the Hill, has named former Syracuse basketball graduate manager Ben Horwitz an assistant coach for the 2020-21 campaign. Head coach Stefan Thompson made the announcement of Horwitz’s hiring in a press release.

A 2017 graduate of Syracuse University, Horwitz most recently served for two seasons as a graduate assistant manager with the Orange. He was also an undergraduate team manager for Syracuse basketball for four stanzas.

Horwitz’s time as a SU manager included when the Orange went on a surprising run to the Final Four as a No. 10 seed during the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Per the Hobart press release, while a manager for the ‘Cuse, Horwitz worked with the Orange’s assistant coaches in analyzing video of Syracuse’s opponents.

He participated in some on-court activities for practices and individual player work-outs, as well as having responsibilities pertaining to game-day preparations and recruiting.

"Thompson gave his new assistant coach high praise in the press release, saying of Horwitz, “Ben’s passion to grow as a coach and to help make those around him the best versions of themselves is inspiring. Seeing the relationships he’s been able to establish and maintain throughout his career is something that stood out during the interview process. He’s detailed, has a tremendous work capacity and most importantly is authentic.”"
