Syracuse football has picked up an experienced defensive lineman, Cody Roscoe, who had nine sacks a year ago.
After having lost both of its starting defensive ends to the pro ranks following the 2019 campaign, Syracuse football has some big holes to fill, and the Orange got a solid boost in that department when seasoned defensive lineman Cody Roscoe elected to transfer to the ‘Cuse.
Roscoe, who is making the move from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., revealed his plans on Twitter. On that team’s Web site from its 2019 stanza, Roscoe was listed as 6-foot-1 and 247 pounds.
A rising senior, Roscoe “has one year of eligibility remaining and is expected to be immediately eligible,” reports CuseNation.com’s Mike McAllister.
Per Roscoe’s bio on the McNeese State Web site from the 2019 term, as a junior, he collected nine sacks, 42 total tackles, 21 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries, and 10 pass break-ups.

It’s worth noting here that Sterlin Gilbert, Syracuse’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, served as the head coach of McNeese State in 2019 before joining the Orange.
Cody Roscoe, a transfer from McNeese State, can carve out a substantial role with Syracuse football.
The ‘Cuse saw stellar defensive ends Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson go to the NFL after last season, so Syracuse absolutely could use additional depth on its defensive line.
That is particularly important as the Orange defense settles into a 3-3-5 system under new defensive coordinator Tony White. Roscoe should have the chance to earn significant minutes, whether as a starter or key reserve.
A member of the 2017 recruiting cycle, Roscoe attended Heights High School in Houston and got listed as a two-star prospect by both the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com.
According to his bio on the 247Sports Web site, he held other offers from Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, and Northern Colorado. The 247Sports Composite rated Roscoe as the No. 129 inside linebacker nationally across the 2017 class.
At McNeese State, Roscoe proved one of the top defensive players on this squad, and he will bring valuable experience, skills, and talent to the Hill.
