Austyn Kauhi, a 2021 three-star prospect, has verbally committed to Syracuse football.

Austyn Kauhi, an athletic, agile offensive tackle in the 2021 class, has given Syracuse football its inaugural pledge on the offensive line in this recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Kauhi, a rising senior at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama High School in Honolulu, revealed his commitment to the Orange program via his Twitter page.

Although unranked by Rivals.com, 247Sports rates Kauhi as a three-star player who is No. 140 across the country at the offensive-tackle position in the 2021 class, as well as the No. 12 prospect in the state of Hawaii.

According to a review of Rivals.com and the 247Sports Web site, Kauhi has received 10 scholarship offers. Other squads to offer him are Central Michigan, Fresno State, Hawaii, Idaho, Navy, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV.

The ‘Cuse doesn’t typically recruit much in Hawaii, however, Syracuse does have some connections to that state. Orange head coach Dino Babers played running back and defensive back at the University of Hawaii and also coached there, for example.

Per a Syracuse.com report, ‘Cuse offensive-line coach Mike Cavanaugh recruited Kauhi. The article says that Cavanaugh served as the offensive-line coach at the University of Hawaii from 1999 until 2004.

The commitment by Austyn Kauhi gives Syracuse football nearly a dozen players in its 2021 class to date.

Recruiting analysts and Kauhi’s coaches say that Kauhi is athletic and agile, and he possesses excellent footwork and a solid frame that will enable him to efficiently add weight and strength.

Moreover, Kauhi is described as a young man with a terrific work ethic who is a supportive teammate and always looking to improve his craft.

Now with 11 commitments in its 2021 recruiting cycle, this class for Syracuse currently checks in at No. 57 nationally on the 247Sports Web site, as well as No. 56 on Rivals.com.

The Orange absolutely will continue to target other offensive linemen in the 2021 class, and Kauhi is an admirable beginning for the ‘Cuse in this regard.
