Syracuse Orange athletics officials are going with “the Stadium” rather than the Carrier Dome. We’ve got different options.
The Syracuse Orange athletics department went with “the Stadium” instead of the Carrier Dome earlier this week in a press release announcing that the basketball team would host UMBC this coming November.
Frankly, “the Stadium” won’t do. So, to that end, we’ve gone through a rigorous branding exercise here at Inside The Loud House to develop a cadre of possible names for the facility that houses Syracuse basketball, football and other sports at 900 Irving Ave.
In full disclosure, we take no credit for names that are actually reasonable, and especially for those which are outrageous, silly or downright absurd (insert sarcasm here). Without further ado, some names to consider.
•Dino’s House (an ode to either Dinosaur Bar-B-Que or current football head coach Dino Babers)
•The Salted Potato (referencing the Syracuse “Salt City” nickname)
•Pastabilities Place (homemade Italian cuisine, a favorite food genre of Orange basketball head coach Jim Boeheim)
•The Wegmans Market (self-explanatory)
•Central Arena (a nod to Syracuse’s location in Central New York)
•Manny’s Shop (my favorite place to buy ‘Cuse merchandise)
•Varsity Orange (a shout-out to the iconic restaurant on the SU campus, and a play off of the movie “Varsity Blues”)
•Orange Tusk Arena (because I loved the Blue Tusk sandwiches when I went to SU)
•The Cool Whip Colosseum (Cool Whip, a delicious dessert treat, has a long history of getting manufactured in Avon, N.Y.)
•Chobani Arena (the well-known yogurt is made at plants in New Berlin, N.Y., and elsewhere, and the company is headquartered in Norwich, N.Y.)
•Fisher-Price Stadium (okay, I have a son who is almost four years old, and this educational-toy company is based in East Aurora, N.Y.)
•The Lockheed Martin Flight Center (the massive aerospace and defense contractor has a large presence in the Syracuse region and is also headquartered in Bethesda, Md., not far from where I grew up)
•Lucy’s Place (yeah, I may have grabbed drinks at the Marshall Street establishment known as Lucy’s decades ago)
•Kinney’s Korner (the chain of drugstores and pharmacies has locations throughout Central New York)
•Hofmann Stadium (homage to the Syracuse-based Hofmann Sausage Co.)
•Price Chopping Arena (grocery-store chain Price Chopper is headquartered in Schenectady, N.Y.)
•The Loop on Irving (let’s be honest, the top of “the Stadium” looks like a freakin’ roller-coaster)
•The Corning Glass Factory (saluting the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N.Y.)
•The Juice Bar (um, our mascot is Otto the Orange, duh)
•The ‘Cuse House (traveling back to 1996, my friends, when the ‘Cuse is in da house, oh my God!)
