Syracuse football remains in contention for 2021 wide receiver Jimmy Valsin, who revealed his top eight.
Syracuse football already has one wide receiver in its 2021 class, and the Orange is firmly in the mix for the services of another wide-out in this recruiting cycle, Jimmy Valsin.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Valsin, out of James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, is a three-star football prospect who also happens to excel at track and field.
He took to Twitter to unveil his eight finalists, at least for now, and they are the ‘Cuse, Colorado, Utah, Houston, Oregon State, Illinois, Indiana and Kansas State.
That’s quite an eclectic group of contenders, as Valsin has included squads from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pac-12 Conference, the American Athletic Conference, the Big 12 Conference, and the Big Ten Conference.
Per his bio on the 247Sports Web site, in 2018 Valsin caught 16 passes for 194 yards and three scores. Then, in 2019, he upped those numbers substantially, to the tune of 33 receptions for 659 yards and eight touchdowns.
Within the 2021 class across the country, Valsin is rated at No. 776 overall by the 247Sports Composite. At wide receiver in this class, he is No. 89 at 247Sports, No. 103 at ESPN.com, and No. 113 at the 247Sports Composite.
In terms of his 2021-class ranking as it pertains to Texas, a state filled with ultra-talented high-school players, Valsin is slotted at No. 91 by 247Sports, No. 100 from ESPN.com, and No. 104 at the 247Sports Composite.
Syracuse football target Jimmy Valsin would fit well in the Orange’s fast-moving offense.
Valsin has received more than 20 scholarship offers, according to the 247Sports Web site. Recruiting analysts describe him as an athletic receiver who runs smooth routes and does a commendable job of getting open down the field.
There is obviously a ton of competition for Valsin, and, to that end, he even noted in his top-eight tweet that his recruitment is still open. Should Valsin eventually choose Syracuse – and I think that’s somewhat of a long shot – he would join three-star Kendall Long as the two wide receivers in the Orange’s 2021 class to date.
Long, who attends River Bluff High School in Lexington, S.C., pledged his commitment to the ‘Cuse at the beginning of May.
