Quentin Hillsman recently added two fantastic recruits to the class of 2021. Syracuse women’s basketball continues to land prized recruits.

Syracuse women’s basketball continues to set itself apart from the rest of the nation. On May 16, the Orange landed both a five and four star recruit, adding to a class that already received an April commitment from Nyah Wilson, another four star recruit.

This now makes three players all ranked inside the top 100 in Hillsman’s 2021 class. This is obviously a welcome sight, as the ‘Cuse joins only UConn and West Virginia in that category.

At number 73 in the 2021 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings is Shayeann Day-Wilson, a 5-foot-5 guard from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ranked 19th at her position, the most updated description of Day-Wilson says she is an:

"Athletic floor-leader with a scorer’s mentality in the back court; a penetrator, collapses the defense and distributes with flair; elusive floor game, 1 on 1 creator with offensive game beyond the arc; best in uptempo; a disruptor, gambler on defense. (Olson)"

With Tiana Mangakahia using up her collegiate eligibility after this season, it will be key for the Orange to find a guard who can run the offense and provide some scoring. Day-Wilson could be a prospective player to hold down the Syracuse women’s basketball point guard position in the near future.

Then there’s Latasha Lattimore, ranked 11th overall in the 2021 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings, and fifth as a forward. At 6-foot-4, Lattimore is said to be a tremendous defender, but is also very good offensively in the paint, making her a double threat down low.

Lattimore undoubedtly makes this class extremely interesting to look forward to, and it only adds to the upward trend that Syracuse women’s basketball is seeing take place. The incoming class of 2020 includes two five star rated recruits in Kamilla Cardoso and Priscilla Williams, both ranked inside the top ten – the ONLY program in the nation to do this. These are the kind of recruits that take a perennial nationally ranked and NCAA Tournament team like Syracuse, to the next level.

If Coach Hillsman can continue to haul in this type of talent, Syracuse women’s basketball will only grow that much more. Obviously they haven’t yet graced the court at the college level, but the talent is projected as being there early and often.

The Orange already have one appearance in the National Championship Game, but maybe they’ll have to start making room for more trophies in the future.
