Josh Moore, a three-star 2021 safety, has put Syracuse football among his half-dozen finalists, but the Orange is likely a long-shot to win out.

Josh Moore, a three-star safety in the class of 2021 whose high-school teammate recently committed to Syracuse football, has whittled his massive scholarship list down to six contenders, including the Orange. That’s the happy stuff.

Conversely, the challenging news for the ‘Cuse is that Moore’s other five programs which remain in the mix are stellar academic schools, and he’s clearly an exceptional student. Noted on his Twitter page is that Moore holds a 4.15 grade-point average.

His half-dozen finalists, which Moore unveiled in a tweet, are Syracuse, Northwestern, Boston College, Notre Dame, Duke and Stanford. Pretty hefty competition. From a pure football standpoint, one would have to think that the Fighting Irish is in great shape, given Notre Dame’s pedigree.

Rivals.com says on its Web site bio for the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Moore that he has received a total of 38 offers. The 247Sports Web site notes that Moore’s scholarship offers from Stanford and Notre Dame came on May 12 and May 6, respectively.

To that end, some Internet chatter of late from recruiting analysts has centered on the Cardinal and the Fighting Irish seemingly having solid momentum with Moore, who is a rising senior at the Marist School in Atlanta.

Then again, the recruiting game is fickle, and things can shift in a flash. The Orange probably faces an uphill climb to land Moore, however, the fact that the ‘Cuse is in his top six should get viewed as a positive.

He is uniformly regarded as a three-star prospect in the 2021 class by the 247Sports Composite, 247Sports and Rivals.com. All three of those rating services slot Moore in their top 50 as it pertains to the premier high-school players in the state of Georgia.

At the safety position across his class, Moore is placed No. 33 at Rivals.com, No. 42 at 247Sports and No. 44 at the 247Sports Composite. In short, Syracuse would prove extremely lucky if Moore elects to don an Orange uniform in the future.

Moore’s colleague at the Marist School, 2021 defensive end/linebacker Derek McDonald, committed to the ‘Cuse earlier this month. That certainly can’t hurt Syracuse’s chances to triumph in the Moore sweepstakes, but I still believe the Orange possesses tough odds to prevail in this recruiting battle.

On Saturday night, Moore tweeted out that he has big news coming this Tuesday at noon. His recruitment, it appears, is winding down, or at a minimum, Moore perhaps is trimming his list further.
