John Gillon

John Gillon was no stranger to the transfer pool in his collegiate career as he played for three different teams. He was seemingly climbing up the NCAA ladder each move he made.

His freshman season, he posted decent numbers as a fringe starter for Little Rock in the Sun Belt Conference. After that year, he decided to transfer, so he needed to sit out a season.

In his next two seasons, he advanced to play for Colorado State. In 2014-15 Gillon only started in one game but provided needed bench minutes. However, the following season his production skyrocketed and impressed.

John Gillon 2015-16 stats:

  • 13.2 points per game
  • 3.9 assists per game
  • 2.9 rebounds per game

As Syracuse was vying for an NCAA championship run, Gillon was in Colorado State, putting up numbers but still had another year of eligibility. He decided to move to ‘Cuse for his grad year to team up with some great players.

For Syracuse, Gillon became a steady piece in the rotation. Many Orange fans will remember him for his late-game heroics, especially the buzzer-beater to defeat No. 10 ranked Duke. But throughout his season, he was consistent for ‘Cuse.

John Gillon Syracuse stats:

  • 10.5 points per game
  • 5.4 assists per game
  • 1.4 steals per game

Gillon’s production was slightly down from Colorado state. Still, Syracuse had a more crowded roster, including freshman Tyus Battle, and leading scorer Andrew White, as well as future NBA player Tyler Lydon. But in the end, Gillon was a needed piece of the puzzle for Syracuse to fill out their roster.
