Wes Johnson

To start his college career, Wes Johnson chose to play for Iowa State. Unlike many transfers, he had a great deal of success for the Cyclones. In his two seasons, Johnson averaged under 30 minutes before suffering an injury that would later require surgery. This injury never directly impacted his career because he took his transfer season to tend to the injury.

Wes Johnson, Iowa State stats:

  • 12.3 points per game
  • 7 rebounds per game
  • 32% from three

It was apparent Johnson was not struggling for Iowa State but still wanted a chance to leave. Syracuse was looking for a leading scorer, and Johnson fit the role perfectly.

In Johnson’s lone season, Syracuse finished 30-5 and first in the Big East. The Orange went on to finish the season ranked No. 4 in the nation and a No.1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Eventually, they dropped their Sweet Sixteen matchup against Butler, who ended up becoming the runner-ups in the entire tourney.

Along the journey, Syracuse was led by transfer Wes Johnson. Just there for one season, Johnson still let his legacy be known on the hill.

  • 16.5 points per game
  • 8.5 rebounds per game
  • 42% from three

Johnson was allowed to be the star and truly shined for the Orange. Wesley started 35 games and averaged 35 minutes a game. With increased playing time came an uptick in his numbers. His three-point shooting percentage skyrocketed, and his point numbers climbed as well. By the end of the year, Johnson led the Orange in points and rebounds.
