Syracuse Football 2020 Positional Preview: Linebackers
Second-team
Geoff Cantin-Arku
First off the bench for ‘Cuse should be Geoff Cantin-Arku. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if he also got some starting nods this season as well. Coming out of high school, ESPN ranked him the No. 3 prospect from Canada where Syracuse seems to have a yearly pipeline.
Last season Cantin primarily played on kickoff coverages and recorded just one tackle. But on the first day of spring camp, he got a majority of the reps with the first team at the middle linebacker spot. While day one of spring camp is just the start, it’s a good sign for Cantin heading into the year.
Lee Kpogba
Kpogba is a sophomore with special teams experience. With a young group of linebackers, there will be room for playing time. With seniors leaving, the reserves will now step into more prominent roles, and Kpogba will do the same. In 2019 he recorded one special team tackle, and it came against Western Michigan.
Kadeem Trotter
Trotter is approaching his fourth year on the Hill now as a redshirt junior. In high school, Trotter was a safety-linebacker hybrid, but now he is fully settling into the linebacker position. He has played in six games but has yet to record a statistic. With Syracuse missing some time to take a look at what they have on the field, Trotter and others may get some significant game action in the early portion of the schedule for coach Babers.
