Two Syracuse football players appeared in an updated and very prominent 7-round mock draft via Matt Miller. Here are the details.
We have reached the month of April which means we’re firmly in NFL Draft season!
On Wednesday morning Matt Miller of Bleacher Report released a monster seven-round mock draft featuring over 255 selections.
In his mock draft, it featured two former Syracuse football players. This would be the first time since 2014 that multiple Orange alums was selected in the same NFL Draft class.
This history is guaranteed to change come draft day in late April. Alton Robinson will be the highest-drafted Syracuse football player since at least 2014 (Jay Bromley, 74th overall in the third round to the NY Giants) and it could be since 2013 (Justin Pugh, 19th overall pick in the first round also to the NY Giants).
Although in fairness the bar isn’t set very high over the last six years only three Orange alum have heard their name called and it all came in the final round of the draft (seventh round).
Robinson is a ferocious pass rusher that has all the traits that NFL scouts drool over. Robinson had a remarkable career with the Orange and projects to be a double-digit sack artist at the next level.
The Houston Texans have had a massive void on their defense ever since Jadeveon Clowney left the team via trade. Robinson could line up opposite of JJ Watt and wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks for the next decade.
For the first time during this draft cycle, we have a Trishton Jackson appearance in a prominent mock draft. So far during this process, Jackson has been a mysterious prospect.
Not many people expected Jackson to forgo his final collegiate season of eligibility, not many people expected him to be invited to the NFL Combine, and candidly not many people expect him to be selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The theme that continues to rip through is proving the doubters wrong.
Jackson has proven people wrong and has bet on himself throughout this entire process and he’s been right every step of the way.
If Jackson is selected in the 2020 NFL Draft he’ll be making history on many levels.
Over the last 15 years, only one former Orange wide receiver has heard his name called and that was Mike Williams back in 2010 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 101st overall pick in the fourth round.
Now in terms of the fit, Trishton Jackson on the Buffalo Bills is a seamless match. Salt-and-pepper, mac-and-cheese, and yin-and-yang. The Bills quarterback Josh Allen has a rocket launcher attached to his shoulder and could heave bombs to Jackson who would bring terrific speed to the Buffalo offense.
