XFL Week 5 is now in the books and thankfully there was a ton of big plays by several former Syracuse football alum. Here are all the details.

Eric Dungey, quarterback, Dallas Renegades

Eric Dungey continues to be disrespected and underutilized. This week and next week the Dallas Renegades were forced (and will be forced) to go to the bench due to Landry Jones re-aggravating his knee injury.

Despite a large social media outcry to start Dungey, the Dallas brass decided to put all their eggs into the Philip Nelson bandwagon. Bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off. Spoiler alert, it didn’t.

The Instagram model attempted 49 passes, completed 57 percent of his passes, tossed two interceptions, and blew it for Dallas in a pivotal Week 5 matchup. Despite his horrible stats, the Renegades refused to make a quarterback change and allowed Dungey to rot away on the bench.

Dallas got blown out at home losing 30-12 and dropping to 2-3 on the year and three games back of first place in the XFL West. It’s time to #StartDungey!

Jay Bromley, defensive tackle, DC Defenders

The DC Defenders entered Week 5 on a serious slump, losers of two in a row. They finally got back on the right track with a 15-6 win in a defensive slugfest with the St. Louis Battlehawks.

DC held St. Louis to 4-of-16 on third-down conversions and the Battlehawks only averaged 2.9 yards per offensive play. Just a dominant performance overall. Jay Bromley recorded two combined tackles in a quiet performance on the stat sheet.

Shamarko Thomas, safety, DC Defenders

Thomas also contributed to the elite defensive performance for the Defenders. Shamarko had four combined tackles including a tackle for loss. This was a massively important contest for the standings, with DC’s win we’ve got ourselves a three-way tie at the top of the XFL East standings between the New York Guardians, the Battlehawks, and DC at 3-2.

Jordan Martin, free safety, Seattle Dragons

On Saturday afternoon former Syracuse football stud Jordan Martin had arguably the best game of his XFL career. He tallied eight combined tackles (which led Seattle), secured two pass deflections, and got an interception.

In addition to Martin’s stellar day, the Dragons got off to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, then led 23-14 in the third quarter, sadly it was all Houston the rest of the way. The Roughnecks retaliated with 18 unanswered points to walk away with the 32-23 dub. Houston is the lone remaining undefeated squad in the XFL at 5-0.

Andrew Tiller, offensive line, Tampa Bay Vipers

He was placed on injured reserve prior to the year thus ending his XFL season before it began.
