Syracuse football needs someone to step up in place of Trishton Jackson. Here’s why Ed Hendrix is the dark horse to fill that void for the Orange.

Syracuse football had a disappointing 2019 season, but one shining star was wide receiver, Trishton Jackson.

After sitting out the majority of 2018, Jackson exploded on the scene to the tune of 66 receptions for 1,023 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Surprisingly he decided to forgo his senior season to enter the 2020 NFL Draft. This left a massive void on the Syracuse roster that someone will have to fill next season.

One name to keep an eye out for is Ed Hendrix.

The redshirt sophomore from the nation’s capital has been unable to contribute due to repeated injuries to his leg.

On Sunday Syracuse football opened up its spring camp and Hendrix “participated fully and wasn’t wearing a brace”, per Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com.

On the first day of spring camp, he was working with the second team but there’s plenty of time from now until the season starts.

The Orange has 15 wide receivers listed on its official roster and only two are 6-foot-3 or taller. Hendrix is one of those players.

There are plenty of opportunities to seize in this Dino Babers offense, especially considering the most accomplished receiver on the team is Taj Harris. Outside of him, there are plenty of question marks and unknowns.

One of those unknowns is Hendrix. Not his talent, that’s obvious, but whether or not he can stay healthy is the big unknown as the Orange progresses through camp.

Due to a myriad of injuries to the same leg Hendrix has been unable to play a snap in a Syracuse uniform. Despite getting dealt a bad hand from something he can’t control, Ed Hendrix has continued to chase his football dreams.

He’ll need that type of resiliency to become the next star-studded wide receiver in this Dino Babers offense in 2020.
