Syracuse football pass rusher Alton Robinson received some high praise from NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller. Here are all the details.
Former Syracuse football pass rusher Alton Robinson has mostly flown under the radar this offseason. That may not be the case for much longer.
On the latest episode of the Stick to Football Podcast, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report mocked Robinson in the second round and gave him some pretty high praise:
"“I’m going Alton Robinson. This is a name we haven’t talked a lot about since the season began. We expected big things from the Syracuse football senior and it didn’t happen this year. I still find myself going back loving the traits. He had a very good Senior Bowl week as well. This past year he had 9.5 tackles for loss but only 4.5 sacks which were a big disappointment considering what he did in 2018 with 10 sacks. I still really like his game he has the NFL size and the NFL traits. He’s not the longest guy and he has to work on his pass rush craft a little bit, but the Atlanta Falcons are losing Vic Beasley and they need someone with some speed and twitch on the outside.”"
In this simulation, Robinson was taken with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. That would make him the highest drafted player since Justin Pugh was the 19th overall pick back in the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.
Entering the week at the NFL Combine Alton Robinson’s NFL Draft stock was floating between the third and fourth rounds. After a strong week in Indianapolis, he has been creeping closer and closer to the second round and finally cracked it in a very prominent mock draft with Matt Miller on Friday.
Here are his full workout numbers from the NFL Combine:
- 40-yard dash: 4.69 (third-best among his position).
- Bench press: 25 reps of 225 pounds.
- Vertical jump: 35.5″ (second-best among his position).
- Broad jump: 9’11” (T-eighth best among his position).
- 3-cone drill: 7.32 (T-fourth best among his position).
- 20-yard shuttle: 4.32 (second-best among his position).
During the NFL Network broadcast, once Alton was going through some drills the panel of guests brought up Syracuse football legend Dwight Freeney. There are certainly some similarities in their game, but that’s certainly some high praise
Up next for Alton is the Syracuse Football Pro Day which is currently scheduled for Monday, March 23. After that Robinson can take individual visits to NFL teams leading up to the NFL Draft for some private workouts.
