Syracuse Basketball: Bourama Sidibe needs to prove Pitt isn’t a fluke
Bourama Sidibe has dominated for Syracuse basketball when they play Pitt. Now it’s time to prove those games aren’t a fluke. Here are the details.
Syracuse basketball was able to keep the good times rolling on Wednesday night with an important win vs Pittsburgh.
Several players led the charge, but one of the biggest standouts was Orange big man Bourama Sidibe.
Sidibe recorded 13 points (third-most on the team), collected 10 boards, stole five passes, smashed four blocks and was efficient from the floor going 5-of-6.
It was only the fourth time this season that Bourama has reached double figures in scoring.
Speaking of rare occurrences, Sidibe has had a very weird connection to the Panthers and the Petersen Events Center during his career.
Back when he was a freshman in 2017-18 Bourama rarely made an impact on the court. Then seemingly out of nowhere on Saturday, January 27 Sidibe exploded for an 18 point career-high performance, snagged 16 rebounds, and got three blocks vs Pittsburgh on the road.
After that star performance, a lot of us thought that this would be a sign of things to come. Sadly that would be the last time that season that Sidibe would score in double figures.
As a sophomore, he couldn’t stay healthy and only recorded one performance worthwhile and that was vs Colgate.
Now fast-forwarding to this season, Bourama has been mostly disappointing but once again has popped here on the road vs Pittsburgh.
Is this just a weird Pittsburgh thing? Or can Sidibe prove that this latest game vs the Panthers isn’t a fluke?
Ultimately that’s up to Sidibe who by all accounts is fully healthy so there are no more excuses. Clearly Syracuse needs him in the lineup and they have struggled on the interior throughout the majority of this season. It’s time for Sidibe to prove that this isn’t a fluke and it’s actually something he can build on.
