Syracuse lacrosse started the season on a high note. Both the men’s & women teams broke into the top-five, here are the full details.

Syracuse Lacrosse started the season running out of the gates, winning their first three games. The Orange was named the third-ranked team in the nation, making that the highest spot they have earned in over three years. Let’s take a look at the key players for Syracuse so far.

Sophomore attacker Chase Scanlan leads the team in points with 12, including nine goals. Seven of his goals occurred in the team’s first game against Colgate. That outstanding performance earned him ACC offensive player of the week honors.

Another bright star early in the season has been senior goalkeeper, Drake Porter. Last season

Porter was named All-ACC after leading the conference in both save percentage and saves per game. Already this season, the goalkeeper has lived up to last season’s play. Against top 10 ranked Army, Porter recorded a career-high 18 saves. Among all goalies, Porter is top 10 in save percentage in the entire nation.

Moving back to the Syracuse scoring, Jamie Trimboli has been another threat for the Orange. The senior captain has added 11 goals this season, which places him second on the team. ‘Cuse has been successful this season, putting them among the best teams in the nation.

The next game for the Syracuse men’s team is this Friday at seven against Hobart.

While the men’s team is top three in the country, the Syracuse women’s team is just one spot behind at number four in the NCAA. Before this week, the Orange were ranked seventh and jumped three spots after defeating number six ranked Northwestern last weekend.

Through six games, Syracuse is 5-1 and dropped their only game to No. 12 Stony Brook. Most recently on Monday the Orange defeated Colgate 21-4. When we talk about Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse, there is always one name that continues to come up in the conversation. That is Emily Hawryschuk. She has been dominant for Syracuse in her four seasons on the Hill, and the start of 2020 has been no different.

Hawryschuk currently leads the nation with 27 goals this season. She is also tied for first with 30 points alongside Kayla Frank from Virginia Tech. Syracuse has shown they are a top team this season against high-level competition. And the biggest factor has been the outstanding play from Emily Hawryschuk. Her teammate Megan Carney has impressed as well. Carney is top 15 in the NCAA with 22 points through the start of the year.
