Former Syracuse football quarterback Eric Dungey has returned to the XFL, Dallas Renegades. Here are all the details and what it all means.

After a one week hiatus, the former Syracuse football superstar quarterback Eric Dungey has returned to the XFL and the Dallas Renegades.

The team announced the addition in an official press release:

"“ROSTER UPDATE: The Renegades have re-acquired QB Eric Dungey from the Reserve List and waived QB Brogan Roback.”"

After Dallas’ Week 1 contest vs the St. Louis Battlehawks, the team placed Dungey on the “reserved/left squad list” normally when that happens it indicates the team is moving in a different direction.

Shortly after this news came across the XFL transaction wire, Eric Dungey provided a statement on social media to clarify things.

In his short message to the fans, he stated that this was a temporary move that was necessary so he could deal with “personal family reasons” but that he planned on returning to the team the following week.

The XFL and the Dallas Renegades were men of their words and officially added him back to the roster ahead of its Week 3 matchup vs the Seattle Dragons on Saturday, February 22 at 5:00 p.m. on FOX.

Currently, Dungey is slotted as the third-string quarterback on the official depth chart.

Landry Jones, former Oklahoma Sooners star, is the starting quarterback for Dallas and is one of the faces of the entire XFL. While Philip Nelson is listed as the Renegades’ backup quarterback.

Ultimately this is a numbers game and Dungey’s path to the starting quarterback gig is unclear. But the good news is the Renegades front office is filled with former Syracuse football players and front office members that believe in Eric Dungey.

Daryl ‘Moose’ Johnston is a 3-time Super Bowl champion from his playing days with the Dallas Cowboys and currently holds the title of Director of Player Personnel. Daryl spent four years at Syracuse from 1985 through 1988.

In addition, Dave Boller is the former Director of Recruiting Operations for the Syracuse football squad. Now he’s the Manager of Football Operations for the Renegades.

They both know that Eric Dungey is more than just a quarterback, he’s a football player. So despite the fact, Eric is the third-string quarterback, I wouldn’t be surprised if this Dallas offense finds creative ways to maximize Dungey’s talent on the gridiron moving forward.
