Syracuse basketball secured a commitment from 5-star point guard Dior Johnson on Friday evening. Here are all the details and what this means.

Sound the alarms this isn’t an April Fools’ joke, Syracuse basketball has secured a commitment from 5-star point guard Dior Johnson.

Johnson told Jim Boeheim and the rest of the staff on Tuesday.

Originally Dior is from Kingston, New York which is about three hours away from Syracuse.

There’s no other way to slice this, the Orange landing a commitment of this magnitude at his position (point guard) is an absolute game-changer.

Last weekend he went on his unofficial visit and said that it “felt like home”.

Dedication and loyalty by the Syracuse basketball coaching and recruiting staff paid off. The Orange have been in on Dior Johnson since seventh grade and he has a connection to Buddy Boeheim (they played together in the same AAU organization).

Dior Johnson won’t be reclassifying and he plans on being ready for the 2022 class. At this point, he’s “100 percent focused on Syracuse” but will evaluate all options if the NBA changes the rules for high school players entering the draft.

Landing Johnson by himself is a huge coup for not only Jim Boeheim but the entire Syracuse basketball program. If landing a player of this caliber wasn’t enough, Dior Johnson has already started recruiting different players and said, “best believe I’ll get guys to play with me, guaranteed!”

Normally Syracuse doesn’t land five-star players because those types of players join blue blood programs.

"Dior Johnson is built differently, “I don’t have anything against the blue bloods, but I’m the kind of guy who wants to go to a school where I can play against them and beat them.”All his comments were via Sports Illustrated."
