Syracuse Football: NFL Combine invite provides hope for Trishton Jackson
NFL Combine provides hope for former Syracuse football wideout Trishton Jackson. Here are all the details and what it all means.
Dino Babers tried to keep Trishton Jackson at Syracuse for the upcoming 2020 season to no avail.
Ultimately Jackson continues to pound home the point that he’s betting on himself ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft and TJ firmly believes he has an NFL future.
Apparently the folks over at the NFL Combine agree.
Nate Mink of Syracuse.com was first to report that Jackson received an invite to the annual underwear Olympics.
Although it should be noted that NFL Combine invites aren’t handed out to just anyone.
The week-long showcase is a golden opportunity for the best college football players in the country to strut their stuff in front of the 32 NFL teams’ coaches, front office executives, and top scouts.
Trishton receiving an invite significantly increases his chances of hearing his name called during the 2020 NFL Draft. The analytics speak for themselves, players that are invited to the combine usually have a much better chance at being selected.
On Wednesday Syracuse football head coach, Dino Babers used a colorful analogy to describe Trishton Jackson leaving the program:
"“I’ve got a story for you. You know eagles build their nest on the highest perch because they don’t want anyone to eat their young. From that perch, they continue to feed their young and the little bird strengthens its wings. The only way those small birds can get out of the nest is when the mom pushes them out. When she pushes them, they’ve never flown before. So they either fly or the thing that rhymes with fly (die) where they descend and hit something very quickly. Now the mother doesn’t really know for sure what’s going to happen, but she has a feeling. So the mother pushes them out and sees what happens.Trishton was a really good player for us and we’d love to have him back, but he felt like this was the right time. We’re going to wish him the best and hopes he succeeds. It’s out of our hands now, he’s an Orange, he’ll always be an Orange, and we wish him the best.”"
Everything Dino said at the presser is 100 percent spot on.
Jackson is willing to bet on himself as that little bird and he jumped out of the nest back in late December. We’ll find out whether he’ll fly or die in a few months when the 2020 NFL season rolls around.
