Syracuse football has landed another QB recruit for the 2020 class thanks to Sterlin Gilbert. Here are all the details and what it means.

Last week Syracuse football was staring at an underwhelming quarterback room with zero commits for the 2020 class.

Now the Orange has two fresh QBs after securing a 2020 Texas quarterback late on Tuesday night. Earlier this week Syracuse received a commitment from Jacobian Morgan (full details here).

Dillon Markiewicz is a three-star pro-style quarterback who stands in at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds.

So how did Syracuse football land a big-time Texas quarterback? Sterlin Gilbert.

Gilbert was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach formerly of Texas and of South Florida. Sterlin is the only former quarterback on the coaching staff and he’s paid immediate dividends on the recruiting trail.

In an interview with Mike McAllister of Cuse Nation, Dillon had this to say:

"“Great coaches. Amazing opportunity to work with coach Gilbert and be part of putting Syracuse back on top.”"

Syracuse wrestled him away from Stephen F. Austin and held off a late push from Boise State.

So how good is he? McAllister shared a bit of his scouting report via Cuse Nation:

"“During his senior season, his first as a full-time starter, Markiewicz completed 224 out of 313 passes (72%), threw for 4,187 yards, threw for 45 touchdowns to just six interceptions and ran for seven more scores. Watching his senior highlight tape, Markiewicz shows a strong arm, has accuracy and touch on his deep ball, throws accurately on the run and shows solid footwork in the pocket. There is a lot to like about his upside, and that makes it even more amazing he has not received more recruiting attention.”"

This has to be a huge sigh of relief for Dino Babers and this coaching staff after completely missing a few weeks back during Early National Signing Day.

Now the quarterback room looks much more manageable heading into 2020:

If Gilbert was able to get the Orange a quarterback just a few weeks into the job, imagine what he can do for Syracuse recruiting in the future? The arrow is finally pointing up for the Orange heading into 2020.
