Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers has finally found a quarterback for the 2020 class. Here are all the details and what you need to know.

Salt has continued to pour into the wound for the Orange over the last several months.

The 2019 campaign was a total disaster resulting in a 5-7 year. On the recruiting front, the team has been rejected time after time by every quarterback prospect the Orange have reached out to.

Finally, the bleeding came to a stop over the weekend.

Jacobian Morgan is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound pro-style quarterback out of Canton, MS. Per 247 Sports, he’s a zero star and is unranked overall.

Despite not having much national recognition, his high school coach Calvin Bolton believes the Orange got quite a catch here via Ben Burrows of Syracuse.com:

"“Jacobian is a born leader. Outstanding QB with a strong arm. He’s very knowledgeable at this position. Syracuse found a diamond in the rough.”"

Sure okay, Morgan’s high school coach thinks he’s a good player big deal. Well here’s another reason to feel optimistic, Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers is super selective with quarterback recruiting. He doesn’t just add quarterbacks for giggles, Babers adds someone if he believes in them and that they can fit in his system.

Due to his stinginess, there are fewer quarterbacks he’s evaluating which means naturally Dino has decreased his odds of landing one at the end of the day. That’s one factor to consider in Babers’ lack of success recruiting at the game’s most important position:

  • Cade Fortin (South Florida)
  • Tyler Van Dyke (Miami)
  • Will Levis (Penn State)
  • Brock Purdy (Iowa State)

Quite frankly adding a warm body would be an upgrade to the current quarterback room. Syracuse retains Tommy DeVito, Rex Culpepper, David Summers, and Drew Gunther. DeVito is the clear starter in 2020, but his depth leaves much to be desired.

Jacobian selected Syracuse over offers from Jackson State and Austin Peay. While the college football world may scoff at this addition, perhaps Dino Babers knows something we don’t.
