Former Syracuse basketball star Tyus Battle was arguably one of the best to don the orange and blue in the past decade. Let’s see what Tyus is up to now.

College is just the start of many athlete’s careers.

Syracuse basketball’s Tyus Battle had a storied career with the ‘Cuse, including dancing his way into the Sweet 16 in 2018.

Over his three seasons at Syracuse, Battle became a fan favorite and a leader for the Orange. He averaged 16 points a game and always had the ball in his hands for the crucial moments. Tyus also cracked the top-20 list of Syracuse all-time scorers, per orangehoops.org.

There was no doubt that Battle was a great college player, but the question was how his play would translate to the next level. Some people started to doubt Battle’s decision to leave school early. But he reminded everyone that this wasn’t his first time going against the odds.

Currently, Battle is living the chance to prove people wrong in the NBA’s G-League. The Minnesota Timberwolves affiliate, the Iowa Wolves, signed the ‘Cuse stud as an undrafted free agent.

For the Wolves, the guard has appeared in 29 games, and 10 of those include starts. Now let’s check out a stat breakdown of his first year in professional basketball, according to Basketball-Reference:

  • 7.7 points per game
  • 3.6 rebounds per game
  • 50% from the field
  • 39% from three-point range

For the Wolves, Tyus is already showing some improvement from his time at Syracuse. While his minutes and scoring are down, he is more effective from the field. His rebound, three-point percentage, and field goal percentage have all risen while in the G-League. Even though Battle was not selected in the draft, that doesn’t mean he will not get a shot with an NBA franchise.

For ‘Cuse he was always the guy leading the team, but now he takes more of a back seat to fine-tune his skills. His team is number three in three-pointers made, so Battle improved his stats to align with his team’s style of play. As long as Battle continues to grow, then he has a chance to make it in the NBA and stay there for a long time.
