Former Syracuse football stud Alton Robinson is hoping to “clear his name” at the Senior Bowl. Here are all the details and what he’s done thus far.
It’s been an interesting couple of days for former Syracuse football stud Alton Robinson at the Senior Bowl.
There have been bright spots where Alton has looked like the dominant 2018 edge player that terrorized quarterbacks in the ACC. For instance on this play in practice at the Senior Bowl here.
Although it hasn’t been all peaches and cream for the former Orange star.
In fact, on countless occasions he’s put up some bad tape this week:
The good news is despite some uneven play thus far Alton has been heralded for how he’s been handling the up and down moments. When he’s had a bad rep, Robinson has immediately gone over to the coaching staff to pick up some constructive criticism.
Although at the end of the day, we know that Alton Robinson is a very talented football player. Regardless of how he performs at the Senior Bowl that isn’t going to change.
The No. 1 thing Alton Robinson is hoping to do at the Senior Bowl is “clear his name”. In an interview with the Democrat & Chronicle he talked about that:
"“I just hope I accomplish clearing my name and showing teams my true character. On top of showing them that I’m a good football player.”"
Prior to joining the Syracuse football team, Alton Robinson faced up to 20 years in prison on a robbery charge.
Here are the details via Matt Liberman of the Daily Orange:
"“On Feb. 9, police said Robinson, 17 at the time, stole his ex-girlfriend’s purse and her cellphone, according to a Bexar County (Texas) arrest report. A struggle over the purse injured Robinson’s ex-girlfriend’s knee, the report stated. After police said Robinson pushed the woman down, she ran after Robinson, who dropped the purse but kept the cellphone, according to the report. Robinson allegedly committed a similar crime in May 2015, stealing his same ex-girlfriend’s purse and pushing her into a bush after she chased him, per multiple media outlets’ reports, at the time.”"
Alton, a born and raised Texas football standout intended to join Texas A&M and dominate for the Aggies for many years to come. Because of these reported transgressions and the legal issues stemming from it, his scholarship offer was rescinded.
Eventually, all the charges would be dropped in July of 2017, but the damage had already been done to his reputation.
This forced Alton to go the JUCO route before ultimately getting an opportunity from Dino Babers and the Syracuse football program.
In his three years on the hill, there have been zero reported issues and he’s rebuilt his brand. But at the Senior Bowl and every other offseason event leading into the 2020 NFL Draft, he’ll have to convince teams that he’s a changed man.
So far at the Senior Bowl, Robinson has reportedly met with three teams: the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and the Carolina Panthers.
