Syracuse basketball handled business once again on the road vs Virginia Tech. Here are all the highlights and what this means moving forward.

Maybe Syracuse basketball should just play all of their remaining ACC games on the road?

On Saturday in Blacksburg, the Orange found a way to get their third conference win on the road vs Virginia Tech.

Their other two road wins came against top-25 ranked Virginia and against Georgia Tech earlier in the year.

In this one, they got help from a familiar name: Buddy Boeheim.

At the backend of the Virginia game, after a horrendous performance, Buddy finished strong with some outstanding makes from downtown. In the Boston College game on Wednesday in the dome Boeheim started and finished with authority.

Against the Hokies on Saturday was no different.

Buddy dropped 26 points (tying a career-high) including a remarkable 18 in a row at one point during the thrilling road dub.

Virginia Tech certainly had their chances in this game but couldn’t find a way to pull it out. With under, a minute left Wabissa Bede couldn’t tie the game with a shot from the charity stripe.

This provides Syracuse with another skin on the wall (quadrant one victory). The NCAA seemed like a pipe dream earlier in the year when the Orange was struggling, but now after winning three in a row, this team is oozing confidence.

Final takeaways:

  • Marek Dolezaj finished with his third double-double of the season: 11 points, 11 rebounds, and was 5-of-7 from the floor.
  • Elijah Hughes continued his double-digit point-scoring streak to 18 straight games.
  • Syracuse as a team was exceptional from the field shooting an efficient 48.3 percent from the field but didn’t quite find the same success from deep (finished 6-of-24).
  • The Orange also won the rebounding battle: 35-to-33. Usually, that’s been a good barometer on whether or not the team pulled out the victory.
  • Syracuse is now 11-7 on the season and has now improved to above .500 in conference play (4-3).

Up next Syracuse will see if they can win their fourth road ACC contest of the season vs the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. It will be another opportunity for the Orange to exact revenge against a team that beat them earlier in the year.
