Syracuse Football: Chandler Jones makes history as 1st team All Pro
Former Syracuse football star Chandler Jones makes history as a 1st team All-Pro. Here are all the details and what it means for his legacy.
Just when you thought the 2019 season was over former Syracuse football stud Chandler Jones continues to make history.
On Friday Jones was announced as a 1st team All-Pro at linebacker after an outstanding 2019 campaign:
- 19 sacks (only a half-sack away from leading the league)
- 8 forced fumbles (tied for the lead league)
- 7 strip-sacks (led the league)
- 20 tackles for loss
- 26 quarterback hits
This is the second time in three years that Chandler has been named a 1st team All-Pro. That makes him the fifth player in Cardinals history to earn more than one 1st team All-Pro honor in his career.
Jones earned 32 votes among the 50 total voters, the most of any edge rusher, per the Arizona Cardinals.
Since entering the league with the New England Patriots back in 2012 NO ONE has more sacks (96) or forced fumbles (27) in the NFL during that stretch, per the Cardinals.
Although since being traded to the Cardinals back in 2016, CJ has recorded 60 sacks in 64 games which is just 6.5 short of the career franchise mark in Arizona history behind Freddie Joe Nunn.
On top of all of those achievements, Chandler Jones has taken the torch from former Orange great Dwight Freeney as THE Syracuse representative in the NFL. One of the biggest pieces of recruiting is what your collegiate athletes do at the highest level and no one is representing their program better than Chandler Jones is on and off the football field in the NFL.
