Syracuse basketball will debut some new threads vs Georgetown on Saturday. Here are the full details and a sneak peek ahead of the game.

On Friday morning Syracuse basketball and Nike released new throwback jerseys for the 2019 season.

In a video released on the official Syracuse basketball Twitter account, the Orange and Nike debuted the new threads in a production starring former Syracuse standout and current associate head coach Adrian Autry.

In their formal release on Cuse.com, the University announced they plan to debut the first of their two throwbacks Saturday.

This is an ideal choice considering this team takes on their most notable rival Georgetown in the Nation’s capital on national television.

"The contest against the historic rival fits the timing to debut the new uniforms as they “model a uniform style similar to the one the team wore during the height of the heated encounters with hoyas between 1983-1994.”"

Fans have clamored for Syracuse to bring back a more classic style of their 1980-90s style uniforms. The classic script look, especially of yesteryear, really began to grow in 2014 when the Orange deployed an Orange alternate with white script in a one-off against Boston College at the Dome, and a white version against Georgetown in 2016 to honor Pearl Washington.

2019 will see both an all-Orange (unlike 2014) and an all-white version for Syracuse. The home whites are scheduled for the North Florida contest on December 21.

While these are the only two dates currently known for the throwback uniforms, it is highly unlikely that it will be the only time you’ll be seeing the jerseys around the Carrier Dome. According to Cuse.com jerseys are expected to be available for purchase after the new year.

It’s no secret that this will be popular items for fans to buy when available and will likely sell like hotcakes. The Syracuse football team had great success with their jersey sales back during the Summer.

The style while sleek and offering a fresh change to the current block lettering “elite,” style that debuted in 2007 with Donte Green and Jonny Flynn,  these old school jerseys also bring the nostalgia of an era that defined Syracuse basketball for a generation.

The video posted on social gives fans a first-hand look at what the jerseys look like modeled by Buddy Boeheim and Elijah Hughes, the viewer sees Autry going down Syracuse basketball memory lane. Autry begins with a photo of his playing days at Syracuse standing beside coach Jim Boeheim before being cut away to flashbacks of the past.

The highlights show not just great players and moments of the Orange’s past but the feelings these meant for fans for so many years. Whether it was an Autry and-one or a Sherman Douglas lob to Derrick Coleman, these moments help make Syracuse fans reminisce on what helped make them an Orange fan in the beginning.

The men’s basketball team has been a staple of the community since the days of Dave Bing and Boeheim suiting up, with legends since the 1920s with Hall of Famer Vic Hanson. With multiple generations of Syracuse fans trudging through the snow and the cold to the Dome or gathering around the TV to see if their beloved Orange can break Georgetown’s heart on the road, the past helps intertwine the present and the future of Syracuse basketball fans.
