Pick Analysis. QB. Syracuse. 1. 827. Scouting Report. Tommy DeVito. player

*insert Captain Obvious joke here*

Tommy DeVito is the straw that stirs the drink for Syracuse, for better or for worse. In his first year, he redshirted and learned from the bench.

In his second season, he got to play the role of an unexpected superhero off the bench. DeVito had several shining moments that inspired confidence for the future (vs Florida State and vs North Carolina respectively).

Entering his third season with DeVito’s role as the starting quarterback secured, the sky was the limit. Sadly for a variety of reasons he never reached his full potential:

  • Playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in all of college football.
  • Shying away from contact and forcing bad interceptions.
  • Straight up not developing at the pace everyone expected.

Part of the blame is on DeVito and part of the problem was his supporting cast. In 2020 expectations are much lower based on what Syracuse fans witnessed the previous season.

Although inside the building there’s still a very strong belief that Tommy DeVito in his second season as a starter can make a huge leap.

The offensive line will return four starters, Syracuse will be adding a few pieces to the receiving core, and while they lose Moe Neal, their backfield is strong enough to sustain the loss.

There are no excuses, 2020 is a prove it year for Tommy DeVito and this Syracuse football team. It’s time to put up or shut up and that starts and ends with DeVito.
