Syracuse basketball fans will be joined by UFC BMF champ Jorge Masvidal in the dome on Tuesday night. Here are all the details.
The Syracuse basketball team will be in a dog fight Tuesday night vs the Iowa Hawkeyes. Thankfully they’ll have one of the hottest names in the UFC in their corner at the dome: Jorge Masvidal.
Masvidal is a mixed martial artist who has been professionally competing for the last 16 years in every major promotion: Bellator, Strikeforce, Shark Fights, and World Victory Road. Currently, he’s in the most prominent fighting promotion on the planet the UFC.
Despite Jorge being in the fighting game for a long time, he recently rose to prominence with the fastest knockout in UFC history (five seconds) vs Ben Askren on July 6, 2019 at UFC 239.
It was one of the most vicious knee-to-head strikes that you’ll ever see and Askren has since announced his retirement from MMA due to a future hip replacement.
Masvidal will be a special honorary guest of Adam Weitsman, CEO of Upstate Shredding and Syracuse basketball superfan. He made the announcement on his Instagram feed Monday night:
"“Lucky I get to meet a lot of amazing people from all different walks of life, a big part of which has been from social media. Some friendships made through mutual acquaintances, some through work, and a lot of times just believing in the same charities we all support and have in common. Happy that UFC champ, Jorge Masvidal @gamebredfighter fresh off his recent epic UFC victory is coming to the Dome tomorrow to watch Coach B and the Orange get back on track with a big win. Nothing I like better than bringing amazing people from all over to see Central NY and meet all of you and see the amazing place we grew up in and call home.”"
It’s actually kind of fitting that Jorge Masvidal is coming to this game in particular between the Orange and Iowa because Syracuse needs some lessons in physicality.
Most recently Jorge Masvidal faced off with Nick Diaz on November 2nd, 2019 with the winner receiving a brand new championship coined the BMF title (baddest motherf***** belt).
If anyone could use that championship on the Orange it would be Bourama Sidibe. He’s got the size and he’s healthy, it’s time for him to show that killer instinct and when a rebound is floating in the air he needs to take it with some intensity and bang inside.
This game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night between Syracuse and Iowa. This is a part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
