Syracuse football is looking to improve the QB room in 2020. They got 1 step closer to that with a pending Cade Fortin decision. Here are details.

Prepare yourselves Syracuse football fans, there’s going to be a lot of transfer portal news and nuggets over the next several weeks.

That trend continued on Monday with North Carolina quarterback Cade Fortin revealing his top and likely final three choices: Syracuse, Kansas, and Vanderbilt.

"“These three schools are the main ones I’m concentrating on,” said Fortin via 247 Sports. “The official visits to each school were good. I got a good understanding of the football atmosphere and got a good understanding of the schools.”"

Dino Babers and Kirk Martin are expected to make an in house visit on Monday, per Cade Fortin.

Syracuse football has struggled to consistently recruit quarterback prospects excluding Tommy DeVito. Outside of landing their prized savior, the Orange have swung and missed on a slew of prospects.

Landing Fortin would be a monumental win for Syracuse.

He said that he plans on making his decision official prior to the early signing day (December 18). The Orange don’t have a quarterback recruit committed for the 2020 class to date.

Tommy DeVito, Rex Culpepper, and David Summers is your group of guys. Clayton Welch is graduating and Culpepper and Summers aren’t realistic threats to push Tommy for playing time in 2020.

The original four-star prospect Cade Fortin enjoyed his trip to Central New York and said it was his first time ever coming up this far north:

"“My visit to Syracuse was good and I had a good time,” said Fortin via 247 Sports. “We went up on their bye week, so I didn’t get to see a game but I got to see a practice and it was really good. Coach Martin is the QB coach so I’ve been talking with him the most but I’ve been talking a lot with Coach Babers. In fact, it’s been a little of both and pretty equal. The trip up there was my first time there and it was good. It was a little different than what I expected but in a good way. I’d never been up north before.”Babers when he first arrived on the hill lauded the dome as one of the best home-field advantages in college football and Cade Fortin seemed to agree saying, “Playing indoor is a huge deal, you play in perfect conditions, 6-7 times a year, and especially for a quarterback, that’s always a plus,” said Fortin. “You’re playing in 72-degree weather.”"

Fortin has solid size (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) and would bring some juice to the quarterback room. Syracuse needs someone that can push Tommy DeVito to realize his full potential.

In 2018, Tommy and Eric Dungey competed for playing time and it made both players better because of it. This past season Tommy didn’t have anyone in the quarterback room that was legitimately capable of pushing him for time.

If Fortin comes to Syracuse that would change immediately. Cade still has three years of eligibility remaining, he plans on signing in December, arriving in January, and being ready to ball in the 2020 season.
