Syracuse Football takes on the Duke in their 10th game of the season Saturday afternoon on the road. Here’s how you can watch and listen to the game.
Syracuse football is coming off a bye week after a humiliating home loss to Boston College two weeks ago, 58-27. The Orange now 3-6 know they must win all three remaining games left on the schedule to qualify for a bowl berth. That stretch starts Saturday at Duke.
Syracuse has only played Duke once in recent years. They last played in 2014 in the Carrier Dome, a game which the Orange lost 27-10, according to ESPN.com. The Orange now playing at Duke is hoping for a different result this time around.
The Orange has yet to beat a Power Five team yet this year, one of a select few teams to be in that grouping. The Blue Devils, on the other hand, have beaten two Power Five teams in Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, which aren’t the most impressive of teams. So this matchup is there for the taking for the Orange.
The fact this game is on the road definitely favors Duke as the Orange’s lone victory this season is at Liberty. However, considering what’s at stake for the Orange, they may be more motivated than they have been all year.
How do these teams match up?
Total yards per game: Syracuse 376.6 yards, Duke 344.4 yards
Points per game: Syracuse 24.1, Duke 27.2
Points Allowed per game: Syracuse 30.7, Duke 27.2
Yards Allowed per game: Syracuse 456.7 yards, Duke 364.8 yards
Well, the good news is Syracuse averages almost 30 yards per game more than Duke. The bad news is the Orange score three fewer points per game and give up almost 90 more total yards per game. The Orange also allows three more points per game than Duke as well.
Failing in three out of the four of these statistics is bad, but it’s even worse when you’re playing on the road. Hopefully, Syracuse comes out of the bye week refreshed and refocused and puts these old flaws and mistakes behind them. If so, their chances go significantly up because they have a good enough defense to keep them in games, even when the offense struggles.
