The Syracuse football squad, unfortunately, is seeing its 2019 season slip away, as the Orange fell for the third-straight occasion last weekend, losing at Florida State, 35-17. The ‘Cuse (3-5, 0-4) allowed Seminoles’ running back Cam Akers to achieve four touchdown runs, and Syracuse’s woes on offense continue onward. Now, the Orange comes back home, where it will host Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

The ‘Cuse is still searching for its inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference conquest in the current term, a disappointing reality after Syracuse notched 10 victories during the 2018 stanza. The Eagles (4-4, 2-3), meanwhile, got crushed on the road by No. 4 Clemson this past Saturday, 59-7, with Tigers’ wide receiver Diondre Overton hauling in three scoring passes. This contest between the Orange and Boston College is slated to start at 12:00 pm, with the ACC Network providing television coverage.

Odds-makers in Las Vegas are presently anointing the ‘Cuse as a 2.5-point favorite, while ESPN’s Football Power Index says that Syracuse possesses a 61.1 percent chance to prevail. From a statistical perspective, the Eagles fare better on offense, as it pertains to points produced and yards accumulated. Conversely, the Orange allows fewer points, and yards, on defense. For the ‘Cuse to succeed, it has to get into a more effective flow on offense, protect the quarterback position with precision, and shore up its defensive miscues that transpired versus Florida State.

I get that the bevy of Syracuse fans are extremely bummed about how the 2019 calendar has played out to date, given what the Orange did a year ago. Unless the ‘Cuse rattles off a bunch of wins in a row, a post-season bowl berth seems close to impossible, which stinks. Regardless, Syracuse has to suit up with pride when it faces Boston College and other future opponents. As for this Saturday, my gut tells me that the Orange will muster up enough juice inside the Carrier Dome to record a 28-27 triumph.
