Heading into Week 9, Syracuse has been disappointing this season, sitting at 3-4 (0-3). The Orange are the only ACC team without a league win this season. That stat does not bode well heading into the back half of their schedule.

This week ‘Cuse travels to Tallahassee to face Florida State. The Seminoles have had an up and down year as well. Currently, the 3-4 (2-3) squad look to get a win versus the struggling Orange.

Syracuse has had a lackluster offensive season so far. Expectations were high coming into the season but instantly fell flat. The offensive line has received much of the criticism for the offense faltering this year, and deservedly so.

Despite one early injury, Syracuse has never recovered upfront. Overall, Syracuse has been outmatched time and time again this season. And it’s difficult for first-year starter Tommy DeVito to show his skills when he is constantly under duress.

Syracuse is coming off of a 27-20 loss to Pittsburgh. DeVito was injured during the game, and Clayton Welch was forced to enter the game. As of right now, DeVito is the man under center for the Orange. In last week’s matchup, Pitt brought down the QB nine times.

‘Cuse needs to give the quarterback more time to increase offensive production. My x-factor for the contest is Moe Neal. He has shown to be a force for the Orange, but Syracuse needs to see more out of their backs to help the passing game.

On defense, Syracuse has done a good job, but it’s difficult when they are continually on the field. Last week, Andre Cisco came back for the Orange and had some highlight hits. Look for him to be this week’s defensive playmaker of the game.

The Seminoles are coming off two straight losses to ranked opponents, and have added motivation to win at home against the Orange.

Florida State has similar statistics to Syracuse up and down the board. However, the Seminoles are still heavily favored by a 10.5 point margin.

Despite some similarities, I predict Florida State will come away with a 31-24 victory.
