Syracuse Football takes on the Pittsburgh Panthers in their seventh game of the season Friday night at home. Here’s how you can catch the game.

Syracuse football let a close one slip by them against NC State last Thursday on the road. The Orange now sitting at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in ACC play, know they can’t let the next one slip by them at home.

Up next? Pittsburgh: the team we don’t claim as a rival, but definitely is a rival. It won’t be an easy contest Friday night, but it’s one the Orange must win at home to keep this season from becoming a train wreck.

As mentioned, Syracuse lost at NC State last week and is looking to rebound. The Orange looked dismal on offense until late in the game when they absolutely had to score. The running game was an eyesore, but not nearly as much as the offensive line which gave up eight sacks! Read that and weep.

Syracuse football is one of the worst programs in the country at giving up sacks this season and that has to change going forward. Unfortunately, just saying that for weeks now hasn’t changed anything. I guess that’s what you get when one of your most experienced offensive lineman in Sam Heckel goes down to injury Week 1 and you have to shuffle parts ever since then and play three new starters at different positions.

Having a bad offensive line affects everything on offense. If the line doesn’t hold, and you feel it’s going to swallow you up every play, that can play with both the quarterback and running backs nerves and mind and keep them from getting into a rhythm, which is exactly what has happened so far. This has to change if the Orange want to play to the potential we know they are capable of.

The Orange has one of the best receiving units in the country with a ton of returning stars and playmakers. The running back position is also three deep as well and could run over anyone given the chance to have big holes to run through. However, without the line doing its job, those unit will continue to struggle.

Pittsburgh on the other hand is flying high lately. They are coming off a bye, but before that, they beat three straight teams: No. 15 UCF at home, Delaware at home, and Duke on the road. Before that, they almost knocked off Penn State in a close one in Happy Valley. In other words, this team is brimming with confidence.

How do these teams match up?

Total yards per game: Syracuse 378.3, Pittsburgh: 393.2

Points per game: Syracuse 25.5, Pittsburgh 21.5

Points Allowed per game: Syracuse 26.0, Pittsburgh 22.5

Yards Allowed per game: Syracuse 425.8, Pittsburgh 298.7 *Possible Game Changer*

The good news is the Orange score more points than Pittsburgh, but the bad news is they also give up more yards and points than their opponents thus far. That is not a winning formula and will have to change for Syracuse football to win this game.

According to the odds listed on ESPN, Pitt is currently favored by 3.5 points in this game. However, don’t lose hope Orange fans! ESPN’s matchup predictor has a different take in this toss up. They see the Orange with a 51.1% chance of winning compared to Pitts 48.9%.
