Syracuse Basketball will be starting sooner than we know it. With a new season, comes new uniforms. Inside the Loud House has the details.
Syracuse basketball kicked off their season earlier this summer with a trip to Italy in August. The Orange were able to test multiple new lineups with the addition of their 2019 basketball recruits, as well as try man-to-man defense.
Just when we thought that’d be the only thing to talk about before the Orange-White scrimmage on October 11, the university released new road uniforms for the 2019-2020 season.
Last year, the Syracuse basketball team road uniform was well, very orange, to say the least. That’s a good thing right? Yeah, to some extent.
As someone who grew up as a kid in these parts and was told to support the Orange and Blue, last year’s uniform was lacking because it was missing the blue part of that slogan.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the all-orange look. Gosh, I wish that would be the home uniform for every home football game for that matter (but that’s a whole other argument I’ll never win).
However, in basketball, the all-orange look just feels like too much Orange. Is that wrong for me to say, especially when our team name is the Orange?
The road uniform was all-orange: jersey and shorts, except for four long, big, thick, white stripes going up from the kneecap to the mid-thigh.
Occasionally, in the second half of the season, these white stripes went away making way for solid orange shorts with the same top. The white numbers on the jersey were thinly outlined in dark blue, but even that looked more like a black outline than blue. The lettering of Syracuse across the front and the name on the back of the uniform were all white as well, but this time with no outline. So imagine my immense satisfaction to hear blue was back for this year’s road uniforms.
This year’s road uniforms look very much the same, but as mentioned incorporate blue back into the mix. The tops are still the same with Orange as the main color with white numbers that are thinly outlined in dark blue. There also is a small gold tag right on the collar that says ‘Cuse.
The shorts, however, though still orange, now have alternating white, orange, and blue square stripes with a big Syracuse logo tag near the bottom of it. Those stripes no longer start at the knee cap, they go down the side from the waist down. That square tag that was mentioned is just below those small square stripes near the knee cap and is dark blue with an Orange Syracuse University S logo in it. It’s a nice look and looks very retro.

Though there are not a lot of changes, it’s nice to see the Orange bringing blue back into the equation when it comes to uniforms. Heck, don’t get me started on the grey unis and stripes of years past…
