Syracuse Football: Week 5 Holy Cross Crusaders crystal ball predictions
Joe Arrigo, Contributor (2-2)
Final Score: Syracuse 60, Holy Cross 3.
After two pretty rough performances, Tommy DeVito had a great game against Western Michigan. DeVito had 5 total touchdowns, and he looked much more comfortable playing the quarterback position.
Running back Moe Neal had his best game of the year with over 120 yards on the ground. Plus, wide receiver Trishton Jackson is emerging as DeVito’s favorite target, and he can flat out ball. This was a great game for the Orange to get their offense moving in the right direction.
However, the defense is still underachieving. Broncos’ QB Jon Wassink could really do whatever he wanted to throwing the ball, and running back LeVante Bellamy had 165 yards on 15 carries! Unless the Orange are playing Alabama or Clemson, it is unacceptable for them to allow a running back to average 11 yards per carry. But a win is a win.
As for the game against Holy Cross, this should be an easy win for the Orange. I’m going, to be honest, I don’t know anything about this Holy Cross team, not many people do. I bet Syracuse doesn’t have Holy Cross scouted to a T either, but it shouldn’t matter. This is the weakest opponent Syracuse has on their schedule this season, and they should win.
Last week I picked Western Michigan to beat the Orange, and I was proven wrong even though the Broncos made it interesting at the end. I picked Western Michigan because I don’t believe Syracuse is a complete football team. What I want to see from the Orange is a complete football game.
So far, if the defense had a good game, the offense played bad, and vice versa. The Orange need to have a game where they play well in all three phases of the game. ACC play is right around the corner, so there isn’t any more time to mess around.
If Syracuse loses this game, start counting down to basketball season.
