Syracuse Football: Week 5 Holy Cross Crusaders crystal ball predictions
Chris Queripel, Contributor (3-1)
Syracuse football heads into Week 5 after winning an almost must-win game versus Western Michigan. ‘Cuse convincingly defeated the Broncos 52-33 inside the loud house.
For the first few weeks, it seemed like Syracuse couldn’t get their feet out from under themselves. But that all changed in Week 4 when the offense came out firing on all cylinders.
Tommy DeVito looked like the quarterback that everyone expects him to be. DeVito finished 27-of-35 with 287 yards and four passing touchdowns. DeVito seemed to channel his inner Eric Dungey because he also ended with 85 yards on the ground and found the endzone once with his legs as well.
All of the offensive weapons were on display in the Dome. Moe Neal carried the ball 26 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Trishton Jackson was named the ACC offensive performer of the week after catching six passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Last week Syracuse looked the best they have on offense by far this season. They must hope to see this same level of production throughout the season.
The Orange remain in the Dome for the third straight week as FCS opponent Holy Cross heads into town. Holy Cross is 1-2 this season after losing to Navy and Yale. For Syracuse, this game hopes to be an easy victory as they hope to remain healthy heading into the bye week.
It’s not a secret that Syracuse should defeat Holy Cross by a large margin. Vegas oddsmakers have Syracuse currently as a 38.5 point favorite over the Crusaders. I like to say that Syracuse should never take any opponent for granted. But with that said this should be a comfortable victory for ‘Cuse.
If Syracuse can continue their offensive efforts from last week, then we will be in store for some fireworks in the Dome. Defensively Syracuse has been injured recently, so this is an important game to get some of the substitutes extended game action heading into an ACC heavy schedule.
My defensive x-factor is Alton Robinson. He impressed greatly last week against Western Michigan. Robinson sacked the QB 1.5 times in the game as well as three tackles in the backfield. Another important stat is that he pressured the QB 10 times in the ball game. Look for Robinson to dominate against Holy Cross.
Offensively, I believe Tommy DeVito will continue from his efforts a week ago. DeVito will have another good game on the ground and will be smart in the air.
Syracuse will win this one in a spectacular offensive fashion. I predict a 45-10 Orange victory.
