Syracuse Football: Week 5 Holy Cross Crusaders crystal ball predictions

The Syracuse football squad finally found its offensive footing this past weekend, and now the Orange gets set to host Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon inside the Carrier Dome.
The ‘Cuse (2-2), after dismal recent performances at Maryland and versus No. 1 Clemson on the Hill, lit up the scoreboard its most recent time on the field, piling up a 52-33 victory against Western Michigan on Sept. 21 in Central New York.
That same day, its next opponent, the Crusaders (1-2), fell by a count of 23-10 on the road to Yale in New Haven, Conn.
While the Syracuse defense appeared shaky on occasion in its conquest of the Broncos, quarterback Tommy DeVito put forth a stellar result, passing for a career-high four touchdowns and running for an additional TD. Orange wide receiver Trishton Jackson, meanwhile, hauled in six catches for 141 yards and a pair of scores versus Western Michigan, earning him ACC Receiver of the Week honors.
This encounter between the ‘Cuse and Holy Cross, a program located in Worcester, Mass., that competes in the Patriot League, is slated to commence at 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 28, with television coverage scheduled for the ACC Network.
According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, Syracuse is projected to have a 97.7 percent chance to prevail. Furthermore, odds-makers in Las Vegas are currently anointing the Orange as a whopping 37.5-point favorite, although that line could certainly move as this battle inches closer to fruition.
Despite the seemingly substantial disparity separating the ‘Cuse from the Crusaders, the Patriot League preseason poll did forecast Holy Cross to finish in second place. So hopefully Syracuse doesn’t show any complacency.
The Orange went toe to toe with the Broncos minus the services of several key guys on defense, and having them return soon will prove huge. Regardless, I believe that the ‘Cuse is going to take care of business against the Crusaders, coming away with a 42-17 win.
