Greg Robinson (2005-2008)

Syracuse Coaching Record: 5-37 (Including vacated wins)

Greg Robinson is one of Syracuse’s least successful coaches in recent history. However, he did have a large amount of pro experience before taking over at Syracuse.

In 1990, Robinson began his NFL coaching career, as a defensive line coach for the New York Jets. He later went on to become the defensive coordinator for both the Jets and the Denver Broncos.

In 1998 his Broncos defense was able to hold off the Jets in the AFC championship game to advance to the Super Bowl. Eventually, his squad defeated the Atlanta Falcons and won the 1999 Super Bowl.

Robinson has a Super Bowl ring to his name as a coordinator. However, despite this fact, he didn’t turn out as a top coach for the Orange.

Syracuse hired Robinson with high aspirations that he could elevate their program. Instead, Robinson led Syracuse to four straight losing seasons. After two of his seasons win totals were vacated due to ineligible players, he holds two of Syracuse’s three winless seasons.

In 2008 Robinson was forced out of command with two games left in the season. His Syracuse career ended with little success.

When Robinson was hired, he immediately changed both the offensive and defensive schemes. Previously, Pasqualoni ran an option style offense. Robinson used his experience with UCLA to craft a west-coast style offense.

Robinson went on to coach the Michigan Wolverines defense. He was hired to replace Scott Shafer who would later to become head coach for Syracuse.

After Syracuse, Robinson’s coaching career seemed to spiral out, eventually, Robinson coached at San Jose State as their defensive coordinator in 2015. The squad went on to win the Cure Bowl against Georgia State. Following this victory, Greg Robinson announced his retirement from coaching.
