3. Tommy DeVito can only get better.

I’m sure that’s hardly inspiring, but it’s true.

Tommy DeVito has been about as bad as you could’ve imagined through the first quarter of the season.

It’s not all his fault, the offensive line is a work in progress. The team is incorporating three new starters from last season with Cody Conway, Koda Martin, and Aaron Roberts all gone. On top of that, they’ve been battling a key injury in starting center Sam Heckel.

He’s been out for the last two games and it has forced the squad to shuffle the deck in the trenches which have caused players to play out of position.

In the Clemson game, Syracuse ate eight sacks and DeVito barely had any time to contemplate his life choices before he was pile drove onto the turf.

But Tommy isn’t absolved of all blame, he has been shaky at best. Due to the incoming pass rush, DeVito has often been forced to roll out of the pocket and Syracuse fans have witnessed both extremes: either Tommy throws it away on a key third or fourth down. Or he attempts to force something that’s not there and it gets intercepted.

It’s happened EVERY game this season thus far, but Dino Babers in the post-game presser after Week 3 says that won’t happen again.

Syracuse fans certainly hope so because it has to be deflating for the defense. Just when they make a play to get the team back into the game, the offense immediately turns it over and thus the defense has to return to the field.

Before we move on, a lot of fans have spilled on social media that they’re ready to move on from Tommy. That sentiment is ridiculous. DeVito has three college starts under his belt, he’s a young passer, he’s going to go through growing pains.

On top of that do you really think Clayton Welch or Rex Culpepper is the answer? Come on people.
