So I know you all are waiting for this and I do not want to disappoint my loyal fans so here is the answer to your question. What is a Terrapin, what is the difference between that and a turtle and why in the heck is that the college mascot?

A terrapin is a turtle that spends time both on land and in water (a turtle spends most of their time on land).

In 1930 at the request of the school paper, head football coach Harry Byrd selected the Terrapin as the school’s mascot. The Terrapin is indigenous to the area near campus.

Bonus trivia the actual mascot’s name is ‘Testudo’.

But I digress ….

Most of the questions that Orange fans had were not answered in their win over the Flames. Sure the final score was positive but several questions remain related to the offensive line and Tommy DeVito. I am not sure that this will be answered on Saturday either.

Dino Babers and Michael Locksley are in similar situations both played against inferior opponents with new starting quarterbacks and neither one really knows what they have.

Here are some key nuggets to look for:

  • Junior transfer quarterback Josh Jackson in his first start for Maryland put up some gaudy numbers and was pulled after the first half, after going 15-for-24 and 245 yards with 4 TDs.  This game was more like the old school QB challenge where quarterbacks threw at non-moving targets with no defenders. Still our secondary will be put to the test.
  • The Terrapins brought some heat sacking Bison QB’s eight times. The rebuilt Orange offensive line will be challenged to give Tommy DeVito some time or this will be a long day for our QB.

Onto the prediction; this one is going to be tightly contested with a lot of unknowns, that hopefully will be answered on the National stage, ESPN at noon eastern. So you ask me who do I like Testudo or Otto … there is no choice, always bet on ORANGE. I have this one 28-25 with ‘Cuse going to 2-0 on the road. Be Loud, Be Proud, Be ORANGE!
