After taking a quarter to wake up, the Syracuse Orange took care of business in Lynchburg, Virginia last week with a 24-0 win over Liberty. Tommy DeVito did not look great, but this guy was one of the best QB’s in his high school class for a reason. Going into the Maryland game, I’m not worried about DeVito; I’m worried about Syracuse’s focus level.

The Orange are one week away from No. 1 Clemson coming to their house in the biggest game in program history in my lifetime, that is if they beat the Terps. Maryland had an impressive win last week against a bad Howard team, so how does that translate to Saturday?

Terps’ QB Josh Jackson is a guy who has been solid when he has been on the field. He has playmakers around him that are much better than what Liberty threw out there last week. With the way Syracuse tackled last week, I’m concerned Maryland will have a lot of big plays on the Orange defense.

The key to the game is the Orange running the ball and control the tempo and the time of possession. I like the Orange to play better on offense this week and to start much better after a slow start against Liberty. Dino Babers needs to make sure his players aren’t looking forward to next week because everybody else is.

The huge point spread swing has me concerned about this pick, but I’ll take the Orange by one point because they will be able to run the ball with success, and open up nice passing lanes for DeVito to deliver.

Final Score: Syracuse 24, Maryland 23.
