It’s Week 2 and Syracuse heads down to College Park, Maryland to face the Terps in their first matchup since 2014.

Maryland is coming off of an explosive 79-0 victory versus FCS opponent, Howard. Honestly no one expected Howard to put up a fight against the Big Ten team, however, Maryland stamped on 79 points for a major Week 1 victory. No matter your opponent, whenever you drop 79 points in a game and pitch a shutout you’re bound to catch some eyes.

Syracuse defeated Liberty on the road 24-0. However, it wasn’t a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination. Heading into Week 2 there are a few areas to note that need to improve. Mainly the ‘Cuse offense needs to get better. It’s understandable with a new QB and a rotating offensive line that there will be hiccups along the way. However, it was clear that DeVito and the wide-outs simply weren’t on the same page. He missed some open passes and the receivers had some easy drops.

In the end, let’s hope all these accounts to rust and miscommunication. The O-line needs to give DeVito more time in the pocket or he is going to be forced to make some poor decisions. Now for the positives. The run game looked explosive for the Orange and looks to stay the same against Maryland. Also, the defense recorded eight sacks and gave up no points in what was seemingly a flawless defensive performance.

Against Maryland look for more pressure from Coleman to force mistakes by the Terps offense. Maryland has a potent run game that hopes to somehow sneak around the solid Cuse D-line. This could be called a big strength on strength matchup.

In Week 1 Maryland rushed for 317 yards where ‘Cuse held Liberty to the negatives in that category. This game is projected to be within a field goal with ‘Cuse as the slight favorite. Overall, this should be a tough fight wire-to-wire. In the end, I predict ‘Cuse wins 24-21 in a defensive battle to make them 2-0 on the season.
