Syracuse Football takes on the Liberty Flames in the 2019 season opener for both teams Saturday evening. Here’s how you can watch and listen to the game.

Syracuse Football comes in with high expectations this season. After finishing 9-3 in the regular season last year led by senior quarterback Eric Dungey, the Orange would go on to win the Camping World Bowl against West Virginia.

In addition, they would finish 2018 with a 10-3 overall record and a No. 15 ranking. Now, the Orange must turn the page to 2019: highly touted former backup Tommy DeVito will take the reins at quarterback and lead the No. 22 ranked Orange on the road to play the Liberty Flames in each team’s season opener.

The Orange return plenty of valuable pieces from last year. On offense,  the wide receiving core remains almost the same minus Jamal Custis; Taj Harris, Nykeim Johnson, and Sean Riley all return, but also add highly touted Michigan State Transfer Trishton Jackson who could have a big year.

On defense, the Orange lost Chris Slayton and a couple offensive linemen and linebackers but returns star defenders Alton Robinson, Andre Cisco, Antwan Cordy, and Kendall Coleman among many other key veterans.

Also of note , Lou Groza award winner (best kicker in the country in 2018) Andre Szmyt returns as well as fabulous punter Sterling Hofrichter.

This Syracuse football squad, as previously mentioned, has a new quarterback in DeVito, but he comes in with plenty of game experience from last year. He played in seven games and most notably helped the Orange beat the Tar Heels (UNC) at home in a come from behind win that showed just what he’s capable of.

If it isn’t already clear, this team is loaded with talent. It has veterans in key positions and well as fresh blood mixed in to keep the team competent. This team is capable of another big season and that all starts Saturday at Liberty.

Liberty, meanwhile, is a mystery coming in. They have talent, but how they use it is yet to be determined. Head coach Hugh Freeze will be starting his first year with the team, so the Orange have no game footage of how this team will operate its gameplan. I guess we’ll find out on Saturday!
