Syracuse Football: Best bets vs Liberty and Week 1 in college football

Syracuse football is officially back and the lines are out. The Orange open on the road against the Liberty Flames, what are this week’s best bets?

The Tommy DeVito era is here and Syracuse football is poised to make a charge to the top of a weakened ACC. Bovada has announced the lines for Syracuse’s season opener against the Liberty Flames and the Orange open as a big favorite. What is the best bet on the Cuse this week?

The Flames are not expected to knock off the Orange this week and the odds agree. Syracuse is a 19 point favorite on the road even with the loss of Eric Dungey and the injuries sustained in the preseason.

However, the money line for Syracuse is a clear stay away at -1300. While Syracuse should win and things will have to go terrible for them to lose, the risk just is not worth it at those odds.

The money line is nothing when you have a juicy point spread such as what Syracuse is facing. I believe Syracuse will pull away from Liberty behind a smothering defense; possibly the best we have seen for the Orange in along time. A team that has Alton Robinson and Kendall Coleman rushing from the edge in front of an elite potential secondary, SU looks to cause turnovers at a high rate against Liberty.

You may say a 19 point spread is a steep one to overcome, but something that seems not just probable but even likely in my eyes. So when I saw the line was at -19 at -105 odds, I could not jump fast enough for that action.

Lock this one as a great bet for SU this week.

Heading into Week 1 against a team perceived to be inferior to the odds on or against Syracuse is not the best for the game action. Don’t let that get in your way however, we have future odds from Bovada on Syracuse let has left me quite intrigued.

A futures bet I will probably go for is Syracuse winning the ACC Atlantic division. Even though I picked Clemson to beat Syracuse in Week 3, if they can get past the Tigers I can see them proving themselves and holding serve the rest of the way.

If Syracuse defeats the Tigers at home they will then hold the tiebreaker over Clemson. This leaves SU with one opportunity to slip up because I do not expect the defending National Champions to lose once in the regular season, let alone twice. This leads me to certainly want to take the +1200 odds, third-best odds in the division behind Clemson and Florida State.

  • Virginia -2.5 at -110 at Pittsburgh @ 7:30 p.m., August 31
