Syracuse Football: 30 things you need to know ahead of the 2019 season
5. Cuse is Clemson’s biggest challenger
I’ll say it over and over again. Syracuse vs. Clemson is the game of the year for the Orange. However, on the flip side, it is also the most important game for the Tigers. ‘Cuse has proven to be an Achilles heel for Clemson over the past two seasons, and the Orange are projected to be even better this year, meaning that this is a game that Clemson will be prepared for. I can’t wait.
4. It’s Tommy DeVito time
This one gives me mixed emotions. Eric Dungey is hard to say goodbye to. From his toughness to his running ability, to his will to win the game, he will always be a fan favorite. However, DeVito showed a lot of promise last year, and now he has complete control of the quarterback reigns. I believe he will flourish.
3. A chance at back to back 10 win seasons
This would be the first time since the 1991 and 1992 seasons that the Orange would complete that feat, which is something to be incredibly proud of. I really think it’ll be done, or else this season could be considered a bust. The roster is shaped to be a 10 win team and the schedule is favorable. Now all they have to do is show up and play.
2. An ACC Title Game isn’t out of the question
Look, if Syracuse gets by Clemson, they’re already 1 game up over the obvious ACC Atlantic favorite. And, even if the Orange do lose 1 other conference game, there isn’t really another team in their division that is projected to come close. Again, it will all come down to the Clemson game, but after that, it’s wide open for the Orange.
1. The Orange can compete for a National Championship
No, I’m not crazy, and if you think I am, I suggest you go back and read what you skipped because everything I laid out before this points to Syracuse as a National Championship contender. The offense is loaded with playmakers, a decent offensive line, and a quarterback who many consider the second-best in the ACC. The defense is also well versed, while special teams are elite again and it could be a game-changer. Add a favorable schedule along with early chances at quality wins versus Maryland and of course Clemson and you’ve got the makeup of a championship contender.
