Syracuse football has been criminally underrated by oddsmakers. So much so that one expert says SU is “the best bet in the country”, here’s why.

The Dino Babers experience has been an interesting one on the hill for the Syracuse football team.

In each of his first two seasons, there were glimpses of what could be a sustainable winning product. Although the aftertaste of consecutive 4-8 seasons was getting hard to wash out each offseason.

Then suddenly the Syracuse football tastebuds experienced a 10-3 sugar rush season. Something clearly SU fans weren’t expecting nor prepared for.

So after a three-season sample size, SU fans and media are puzzled as to what 2019 will bring? Was 2018 a blip on the radar or a sign of things to come?

Well, let’s count the Las Vegas oddsmakers as one of the naysayers on Syracuse continuing their 2018 success.

CBS Sports columnist Barrett Sallee shared his reaction to the latest oddsmakers on how they think each team will do in 2019, let’s just say he was shocked to hear the predictions on Syracuse:

"“5 wins: I had to read this 10 times to make sure it isn’t a typo. It isn’t a typo. Syracuse was one magical drive by Clemson backup quarterback Chase Brice from upsetting the Tigers and winning the ACC Atlantic last year, and it returns four of their top five receivers and a quarterback in Tommy DeVito who is one of the most highly-touted prospects to sign with the Orange in recent history. Dino Babers is one of the most under-appreciated coaches in the country, and this win total proves it. This isn’t just the easiest bet in the ACC, it’s the easiest one in the entire country. — Over -146, Under +124″"

Per Fan Duel, that number is now up to 5.5 games for whatever that’s worth.

Dino Babers does have an overall losing record at Syracuse at 18-19. He also has beaten multiple top-25 teams each year he has been at the helm including NC State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and West Virginia.

At the end of the day, Barrett is right this is EASY MONEY. While technically speaking you can’t bet if you live in the state of New York, this is the bet figuratively speaking that seems sure-fire to make your money back and some.

Syracuse has a weak schedule, outside of the Clemson matchup in Week 3, the Orange may not face another top-25 opponent the rest of the way.

While certainly, SU has lost some talent, they return the majority of their offensive players not named Eric Dungey or Jamal Custis.

It’s now up to the Orange to prove the doubters wrong and show that they can continue on this trajectory and not fall back to ineptitude. Although the five or five and a half win projection should be more than enough bulletin board material for Syracuse this Fall.
