Former Syracuse basketball forward Oshae Brissett will take a page from the Tyus Battle playbook. Here are all the details on that decision.

Oshae Brissett is only 20 years old but has already learned a lot of lessons from former Syracuse basketball guard, former teammate Tyus Battle. That includes the decision-making process on when/if he will return to the Orange next season.

Last year Battle tested the NBA waters and worked out for countless NBA teams and gathered intel on how teams viewed him. Tyus didn’t waste any of the valuable time he was provided by the NCAA to make his decision on his future waiting all the way until the midnight hour to decide he was returning to the Cuse.

For those expecting Oshae to play this any differently, you’re out of luck. Brissett spoke with Basketball Analyst Jeff Goodman of Stadium to explain:

"“I’m not really sure (on what are the odds he returns to Syracuse) it’s completley up in the air. I feel honestly I’m going to take it up to the last day and me and my agent will talk about it then.”"

When the follow-up question came from Goodman about what Oshae is looking to hear and if he needs a first-round guarantee from an NBA team he didn’t hesitate with his response:

"“No I have complete confidence in myself it doesn’t matter where people tell me I’m going to go. But I just want to keep getting the best feedback I can, go through all these workouts I have coming up, and then I’ll think about my decision then.”"

Here are some NBA Combine updates:

  • Oshae has already worked out for at least four NBA teams, but they’ll finalize even more after the NBA Combine is complete on May 19th.
  • Weirdly people keep misspelling his name on the NBA roster sheets (Oshea or O’shae). I guess people are really underrating him and also assuming he has some sort of Irish heritage that we’re unaware of.
  • Measurements via the NBA:
    • 6-foot-8 (with shoes), 6-foot-7 without.
    • 203 pounds (25th lightest player at the NBA Combine)
    • Seven-foot wingspan (ranked 28th among players attending)
    • ONLY 2.9 PERCENT BODY FAT (that isn’t a typo we’ve been told). That is the lowest number of any of the 40+ participants. The next closest? Former Syracuse commit Darius Bazley at 3.6 percent body fat.

Here are two additional nuggets via Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com:

    • “Brissett also had the highest standing vertical leap among forwards that participated at the event, jumping 34 inches.”
    • “Brissett also competed in a 5-on-5 game, turning in average numbers. He played on the winning team and contributed seven points, five rebounds, and two assists in 22 minutes. He did struggle some shooting the ball, making just 3 of 10 shots. That included missing both 3-point tries and shooting 1-for-3 from the free-throw line.”
