Former Syracuse football quarterback Donovan McNabb took a lot of heat for his recent hot take on the quarterback situation in Philadelphia.

Syracuse football fans should remember Donovan McNabb throwing fiery passes in the Carrier Dome throughout the mid-’90s. At 42-years of age, his playing days are long over, but that doesn’t mean he’s done throwing heat.

The latest hot take is towards Philadelphia, the city McNabb called his NFL home for 11 of his 13 seasons in the pros. That’s the very same franchise that selected Donovan with the second overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft out of Syracuse.

McNabb is heralded as one of the best quarterbacks in Orange history and had a very accomplished career within the city of brotherly love reaching five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl appearance. So it’s safe to say he knows a lot about playing the quarterback position and he had a particular take about the current starting quarterback for the Eagles, Carson Wentz:

"“I think in the next two years or so, (Carson Wentz) needs to find a way to get out of the second round of the playoffs. If he can’t, they should look to possibly draft another quarterback.” – Donovan McNabb on Carson’s future in Philadelphia on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio."

This isn’t the first time McNabb has been involved in some drama. Back in his playing days, his feud with Terrell Owens was must-see TV and TO spoke recently about what was really the issue in their relationship:

"“A lot of people speculate as to what happened but I think over the years now, people see that I wasn’t really the problem in Philly,” Terrell Owens told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Radio. “People said that Donovan and I had some friction. Maybe he had some friction with me, but I didn’t have any with him. From my understanding, he had a problem with the way the city embraced me and not the way they embraced him. I am going by what I’ve heard in the streets.”"

That isn’t an isolated thought by TO, in McNabb’s most recent feud with Carson Wentz other players mimicked similar sentiments about Donovan’s apparent thin skin:

Although in fairness to McNabb, he didn’t have thin skin when one of his most treasured records at Syracuse was topped by Eric Dungey during the 2018 season. During the primetime game vs NC State last season, Eric Dungey (9,986) passed Donovan McNabb for Syracuse’s all-time lead in total offense.

He actually congratulated him for putting “Syracuse back on the map” and having a great career at Syracuse. While Dungey won’t be drafted No. 2 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, it’s hard to imagine multiple people beating him out for a spot on an NFL roster this Fall.
