9. The Orange blowing half-time leads versus Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia

There are a couple of ways to look at these three games vs Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia. On one hand, Syracuse competed with some of the best teams not only in the ACC but the entire country. Especially in a very short period of time (nine days), thanks to the scheduling gods on that one.

But if I’m going, to be honest, I hate moral cookies. It’s supposed to be some kind of silver lining that forces me to rationalize a loss being “okay”. It’s not okay, Syracuse could’ve won any one of these games and they lost them all.

I think it speaks to the frustrating nature of this entire season. It goes back to the age old question, would you rather lose by 40 or lose close? When you lose by 40, you just got your butt kicked and there are plenty of reasons you lost. While in a close loss it came down to one or two plays.

I wish it were an April Fools joke, but it certainly wasn’t. And to be honest, winning ugly always trumps losing pretty. The moral cookies didn’t help Syracuse when the committee was determining whether they were worthy of being in the NCAA tournament.
