Syracuse Football: Orange in Alliance of American Football, Week 3 recap
The Alliance of American Football has just wrapped up Week 3. Here’s how all the former Syracuse football stars did on and off the field.
Another week of the Alliance of American Football is in the books. Several former Syracuse football standouts made people remember their names this week. Here’s our weekly report on all the former Orange players, coaches, and executives in the Alliance of American Football.
Here’s how some former Orange stars performed in Week 3:
Amba Etta-Tawo, WR, Birmingham Iron
- The Iron is one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the Alliance of American Football (3-0). Birmingham dominated the Atlanta Legends 28-12 in Week 3. Sadly the Iron is having this success without Amba Etta-Tawo who continues to battle injuries and missed his second straight game.
Ervin Philips, WR, Atlanta Legends
- In what ended being a blowout between the Legends and the Iron had a really cool storyline underneath the game. The all-time reception leader in Syracuse history (Erv Philips) and Etta-Tawo who had one of the best single-seasons in program history faced off. There’s only so many spots in the NFL so seeing two Syracuse greats getting another chance to prove themselves is awesome to see. Erv finished with two receptions for 31 yards in the loss.
Kevin Coyle, HC, Atlanta Legends
- Unfortunately, the Atlanta Legends are arguably the worst team in the AAF so far sitting at 0-3 (one of only two teams who remain winless, the other is the Memphis Express). Atlanta is running out of time to turn it around this season.
Andrew Tiller, OL, Orlando Apollos
- The Orlando Apollos continue to dominate the Alliance of American Football landscape. In Week 3 Orlando edged the Memphis Express 21-17, but perhaps most impressive? Former Syracuse football offensive lineman Andrew Tiller is protecting the No. 1 passer in the entire AAF (Garrett Gilbert with 827 yards passing).
Jordan Martin, DB, San Diego Fleet
- One guy who has really stood out in the Alliance of American Football is former Syracuse football standout Jordan Martin. Here’s a video clip from the San Diego Fleet’s latest game vs the San Antonio Commanders where Martin displayed great awareness and ball skills coming down with the interception. Jordan also finished with one tackle in this game.

Dave Boller, GM, San Diego Fleet
- Dave Boller has built quite the powerhouse with this San Diego Fleet squad. The Fleet are tied for first place in the AAF Western Conference Standings after their 31-11 win over the Commanders. The postseason is certainly within reach for the Fleet this season.
Daryl ‘Moose’ Johnston, GM, San Antonio Commanders
- Finally, ‘Moose’ was on the receiving end of that Fleet beatdown. The Commanders drop to 1-2 on the season, just a game out of first place in the Western Conference Standings. The Commanders beat the Fleet in Week 1, narrowly lost to arguably the best team in the entire league in the Orlando Apollos 37-29, then just got blown out.
